Professional Knowledge

Professional Knowledge encourages educators to show that they know what they are teaching and how to deliver this content to students. To meet the learning needs of students and demonstrate comprehension of the standard, teachers must combine sound pedagogical practice with strong content knowledge. Educators are expected to know the curriculum standards and subject matter of their content areas as laid out by school, district, state, or federal mandates. The goal of the standard is to ensure that educators create relevant, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for all students.

Content

  • Scores achieved on the Praxis II, VCLA, and RVE exams showcase my knowledge of content for elementary social studies, english, science, mathematics, and reading.
  • Time spent as an education intern at South Salem Elementary School in Salem, VA (January, 2017) and as a student teacher at Glenvar Elementary School in Salem, VA (September to November, 2017) allowed me to advance in various elements of the elementary curriculum.
